Chelsea and Barca will face off in a preseason game on Tuesday morning in Japan – the fourth game of the Blues' summer.
Prior to their match, Chelsea posted a video on Twitter showing their famous Champions League semifinal with Barca in 2012.
Chelsea drew 2-2 with the Catalan giants but qualified for the Champions League final thanks to goals from outside, thanks to Ramires and Fernando Torres, who both scored the purpose of the evening.
They then won the whole competition that year, thanks to the practical work of Didier Drogba in the final against Bayern Munich.
The video was accompanied by a caption: "Barcelona v Chelsea tomorrow …" next to a wink emoji.
Barca duly fought back to their English in a few hours later in an answer that would have been brilliant.
Their answer said, "Is it a step back when you played in the Champions League?"
But Chelsea fans on Twitter quickly pointed out that Barca had forgotten something crucial.
The West London club qualified for the Champions League next season by finishing third in the Premier League last season.
A fan replied, "The last time I checked, we are in the 2019/20 Champions League."
Another wrote: "We are among the guys in the Champions League …
While a third started with: "You lost a lot 4-0 against Liverpool last season if you wanted to forget the competition for a while …"
The last time Chelsea and Barca competed in the European elite competition, the Premier League club was ousted 4-1 in two sets.
But both clubs have experienced monumental European clashes over the years.
Chelsea eliminated Barca from the competition in 2005 in the final stage, before the Spaniards return the favor one season later.
Their most famous encounter may have taken place in 2009 when Andres Iniesta's 93rd-minute goal broke Chelsea's heart at Stamford Bridge, bringing Barca to the finals.
