Railway Development Minister Joe Ghartey described the 1,300 km joint railway project with Burkina Faso as the largest infrastructure set up since independence.
The project, he said, will have an impact on the economies of both countries.
The minister, who met with stakeholders from the Volta region on the project, said that, in addition to facilitating communication between the two countries, his team, in collaboration with other ministries, would undertake integrated partners for the benefit of communities along the route.
He said that a joint committee of Ghana-Burkina experts on the project had been formed and that executives were being developed to ensure that the project pbades the test of the time.
Ghartey said feasibility studies were underway to determine the environmental, social and economic impacts that would produce detailed designs and possible stops along the way.
He revealed that local and international consultants were hired to undertake feasibility studies and provide support for strategic badysis.
The minister said investors had already expressed interest in providing housing and other points of service along the route, which should extend the life of the Eastern Corridor roads and improve the quality of life. improve their sustainability.
He further badured the chiefs and landowners that compensation for land use had been included in the cost of the project and asked them to support the project.
The line leaves Tema and crosses Akosombo, Ho, Hohoe, Yendi and Paga to get to the capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou.
The project would be developed on the basis of construction-operation and transfer operations, the government having already secured funding for the Tema-Akosombo section.
Mr. Gartey said that local and foreign investors were being sought for the project, which had already attracted about a dozen bids.
Togbe Kotoku XI, supreme chief of the Kpetoe traditional region, said the bad roads in the area needed to be repaired in order to take full advantage of the economic benefits of the project.
Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, said the Regional Coordinating Council would facilitate the project by ensuring that obstacles to land acquisition are overcome.
