Some cruise ships have features that could easily be part of onshore amusement parks. From the new Carnival roller coaster to the now traditional Royal Caribbean carousel, here is a selection of these unique attractions:
BOLT: Ultimate Sea Coaster – Carnival
Ready to debut on the new Mardi Gras, BOLT is the first roller coaster at sea. The all-electric ride has an open-air course, suspended above the ship. Along with a motorcycle style car, BOLT also allows customers to choose how fast they want to go.
Go-Karts – Norwegian
Currently, three ships of the Norwegian Cruise Line offer go-cart tracks on their upper decks. Called Speedways, these tracks are available on Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Joy and Norwegian Bliss. With a capacity of ten riders at a time, the attractions use all-electric karts that can reach around 50 km / h.
Carousel – Royal Caribbean
Available on all Oasis Class ships, the Carousel is the highlight of the Boardwalk neighborhood on these ships. According to Royal Caribbean, the craft ride evokes memories of childhood, with horses, zebras and rabbits inviting guests to climb for a ride.
Dream Park at the Pier – Dream
Dream Cruises’ new ship, the Global Dream, will debut in 2022 with an entire theme park on board. Called Dream Park at the Pier, the attraction will feature its own roller coaster, as well as a trampoline park, surf simulator, and more.
Sportplex – MSC
The Sportplex multipurpose site is on MSC Meraviglia class ships. In addition to a sports field, the area includes a bowling alley, video arcade and F1 simulators.
In the evening, the sports field turns into a party place.
Studio B – Royal Caribbean
Studio B is the ice rink aboard Royal Caribbean International ships. During the day, guests can test their skating skills here. At night, the ice rink transforms into a venue for the performances of world-class professional skaters.
Laser Tag – Norwegian
Norwegian Cruise Line introduced Laser Tag arenas at sea with Norwegian Joy in 2017. The attraction is now available on two other ships – including the new Norwegian Encore, which has an expanded version. The open-air arenas have a picturesque and awe-inspiring setup, recreating sci-fi themes.
SkyRide – Carnival
The Carnival SkyRide allows guests to “cycle” around the ship while suspended above the deck and the ocean. The two-way treadle tower is available on Vista Class ships.
