The best white wine from Costco is Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

  • Costco offers a wide selection of wines under its private label Kirkland.
  • Business Insider's retail office recently tasted several of Kirkland's wines.
  • Since the Costco store in Oceanside, Long Island, did not contain all Kirkland varieties in stock, our tasting was not exhaustive.
  • Our favorite Costco white wine at this tasting was Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

The Kirkland brand of Costco offers a wide range of wines. And the retail section of Business Insider recently sampled several at a wine tasting.

I only found seven different bottles in the Costco at Oceanside on Long Island, so it was not an exhaustive review of Kirkland varieties. But it seems that we have had a definite success with the four white wines – the Kirkland versions of Prosecco, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc – available.

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc was our favorite choice, and it's a bargain at $ 6.99. Our bottle was from a 2018 vintage. The Kirkland Wine is a result of a partnership between Costco and winemaker Tracy Haslam of Ti Point Winery in New Zealand.

Read moreWe tested seven of Kirkland's Costco wines and were amazed by their price and quality. Here's how they ranked from worst to best.

At the end of the day, we were not only seduced by low prices: Kirkland boasted a bolder and more consistent flavor than the competition.

Our tasters described the wine as "spicy", "herbaceous", "acid" and "clean", with shades of "tart orange", "apple" and "roasted fruit". The Kirkland Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio that we tried had criticized as being "too sweet", so the acidity was a nice surprise.

All who attended the tasting declared that they would come back to drink the wine – with the exception of another lukewarm person who answered "maybe" to this question – and all our tasters agreed that it was well worth $ 6.99.
