In a devastating turn, Thanos came out triumphant Avengers: war in the infinite – But what mistakes did the Avengers make that led to his victory? When Bruce Banner arrived on Earth, he announced that the stakes were more important than ever. Thanos aimed to collect Infinity Stones and, if he did, he could literally eliminate half of life in the universe. The Avengers did their best to stop Thanos and Iron Man even managed to shed blood. In the end, their efforts were not enough.
But was it inevitable, or could the Avengers have stopped Thanos? It's easy to revisit previous films and imagine how things could have happened if the most powerful heroes on Earth had made different choices. Would Thanos have triumphed if the Asgardians had secreted Ether elsewhere, perhaps hiding it in another dimension rather than with the Collector? Would the Avengers have been more successful if they had remained united rather than divide the Sokow and the Winter Soldier agreements? All of these "what if" scenarios are fascinating, but they are in fact unknowable, because they change the story far too much for it to be said. It's much easier to look at Avengers: war in the infinite herself and ask how a handful of different decisions could have changed the course of history.

For the moment, let 's look at seven key decisions – some obvious, some less obvious – that could potentially lead to the defeat of Thanos. Each of these choices would have subtly reshaped the story and even saved half of the lives of the entire universe.
Vision turning off his transponder
Vision and Scarlet Witch were on opposite sides in Captain America: Civil Warbut the tension seems to have helped the two to realize the depth of their feelings for each other. Off the raft by Steve Rogers, Scarlet Witch chose not to surrender to the authorities. One of the most sought after in the world, she learned to hide by concealing her accent and managed to escape two years. During this period, however, she stayed in touch with Vision – and their appeal turned into love. Two weeks before the invasion of Thanos, Vision and Scarlet Witch decided that it was time to end up in Edinburgh. Vision turned off his transponder so that he could not be found and headed for Wanda.
This was a major strategic mistake, especially since Mind Stone had begun to warn Vision that something was going to happen. If he had not turned off his transponder, Tony Stark could have called Vision and warned him that he was a target. It is highly likely that both Vision and Scarlet Witch would have returned to New York; Wanda would not have left his side under these circumstances. They probably would not have arrived in time to influence the battle, since Edinburgh is more than 5,000 km from New York, but they would certainly have been in transit and in a state of alert. Corvus Glaive would not have been able to take Vision by surprise, which means that he would never have been hurt – and would have proved to be a force with which one had to rely during Avengers: war in the infinite.
Tony Stark does not call Steve Rogers
Tony Stark's first mistake was not to call Steve Rogers right away. In truth, this one is inexcusable; Stark knew how high the stakes were, and Bruce Banner had just told him about an enemy powerful enough to slaughter Hulk easily. Stark should have admitted that it was a crisis that he had always feared and that he needed Steve Rogers and his secret avengers. With the covered Time Stone, Steve and his team reportedly went to Scotland to warn Vision and Scarlet Witch. They would have arrived there before Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight launched their attack, meaning – again – Vision would probably not have been hurt.

This unique decision accelerates the time scale of Avengers: war in the infinite. In the film, it is safe to badume that Rogers and his team went to get Scarlet Witch when they learned about the attack in New York and Stark's disappearance. In this scenario, they would run at least half an hour or even an hour ahead. Later, this would give Shuri more time to work on the Mind Stone – and eventually extract it from Vision.
Do not come back from Titan
The decision to proceed to Titan is one of the turning points of Avengers: war in the infinite. Iron Man, Doctor Strange and Spider-Man successfully captured Ebony Maw's ship, but rather than returning to Earth, they chose to end the trip and fight Thanos at home. They depended on the advantage of surprise, but in reality it was a foolish choice because they left the Earth much less well defended.
It is impossible to say with certainty how things would have happened if Strange had insisted that they return to Earth. When the battle of Wakanda finally took place, the Avengers would probably have found their ranks inflated by the defenders of the Time Stone, the Masters of Mystic Arts. It's not hard to imagine that the Masters capture the invading Outriders in the Mirror Dimension, devastating the armies of the Black Order. On the other hand, however, Thanos would have arrived on Earth much sooner, having easily dealt with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Not threatening to destroy the stone of the spirit
"We do not exchange lives, Vision,"Steve Rogers insisted, ironically, of course, he did exactly that, how many Wakandais died trying to prevent the Dark Order from getting to Vision?" It's easy to understand why the Avengers do not They did not want to destroy the Stone of Spirit, that would kill one of their members, after all, but as soon as the Black Order came to Wakanda in force, it should have been clear to everyone who 39, worried that he simply did not have enough time to extract the stone from the spirit.

And yet, the Avengers could have played in a certain way. The Black Order wants the spirit stone and the Avengers know how to destroy it. They should have launched a simple threat. If black order advances, they will destroy the stone of infinity that they must acquire on Earth. This threat should have at least slowed down the Dark Order; it is reasonable to badume that they would have striven to find another way to place Corvus Glaive behind the protective force field, so that he could use stealth to capture the mental stone. It is true that it would only have worked for time; but time was everything Shuri needed.
