Luka Modric was hit by a black eye after a headshot with Franco Vazquez of Sevilla this weekend.

Modric collided with Argentine international Vazquez in the 38th minute of the La Liga's 2-0 win over Real Madrid at Bernabeu.

Remarkably, both players remained on the pitch as Real's Croatian playmaker showed up in stoppage time to score the hosts' second goal.

Stylist Miguel Siero posted a photo on social media two days after the match, showing Modric at the sport.

"Selfie with my friend Luka Modric," wrote Siero on Instagram. "Nice black eye, get back quickly."

In the picture, bruises are clearly visible around the left eye of the winner of the Golden Ball, Modric.

So far, the season has been unfortunate for Real but Saturday's victory has allowed them to rank third in the Liga, 10 points behind Barcelona.

Bernabeu's boss, Santiago Solari, called Modric a "warrior" and revealed that he had spent the 15 minutes of half-time getting healed on a stretcher.

The next match for Modric and his teammates is the first leg of their Copa del Rey quarter-final against Girona at Bernabeu on Thursday night.
