The Boring Company Tunnel of Elon Musk has not impressed officials in Virginia

The Virginia Transit officials do not seem very impressed by the Elon Musk tunnel and they had a hard time hiding it.

The public transit subcommittee must invest billions of dollars to improve its transportation systems. However, the committee was concerned that rail infrastructure projects would soon become obsolete only with technology such as the popular Elon Musk tunnel. So, earlier this year, Elon Musk's Boring Company organized a tour of its tunnel in southern California for Virginia transit officials.

This week, transit professionals who knew the Musk Tunnel shared their thoughts with the subcommittee.

"It's a car in a very small tunnel."

"It's a car in a very small tunnel," said Michael McLaughlin, head of rail transportation in Virginia, according to local media. "If one day we decide that it is feasible, we will obviously come back to you."

Ouch.

Elon Musk can be used to criticism now – or. Whatever the case may be, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX has long been pilloried for his tunnel idea. However, they are transport officials. It is the very people Musk has to sell his tunnel.

"I think there are a lot of shows here," said Scott Kasprowicz, a member of the Commonwealth Transport Council, who also visited the Boring Company tunnel. "I do not mean that they have no serious plans in mind, but I do not consider that the measures they have taken to date are substantial."

Musk says that the first tunnel, 2 km long, has a manufacturing cost. According to Los Angeles Timeshowever, this represents research, development or equipment costs. In fact, the $ 10 million may not cover the cost of goods or labor.

"They bought a used drill rig," Kasprowicz explained, referring to the device used to dig tunnels. "They set their sights on the neighborhood where they developed the SpaceX product, took a model 3 and placed guide wheels in the tunnel at 60 km / h."

"I think none of this is really meaningful for moving this process forward," added Kasprowicz.

The member of the Commonwealth Transportation Board did not completely leave the tunnel and felt it might be feasible in the future. Kasprowicz has, however, set a timetable for this future in decades.

"The reality is that it's a good idea, but I'm not sure its time has come," Kasprowicz concluded, trying to praise Musk.

"We will give credit to Elon Musk and the Boring Company for at least trying," added McLaughlin.

The Boring Company has recently been more successful elsewhere. The company has received approval to start digging a tunnel in Washington, DC Just at the beginning of this month, Las Vegas announced the construction of a Boring Company tunnel at the Fair Convention Center site. annual CES technology. An Australian politician even talked about the tunnel directly to Musk on Twitter.

At the same time, however, Musk plans to build a tunnel in Chicago – one of the company's winning solutions – is close to. The construction projects of a tunnel in the west of Los Angeles have been developed by locals and neighborhood badociations.

It seems that the verdict is still pronounced on Musk and its tunnels of the Boring Company. But, for the moment at least, it seems that the state of Virginia is transmitting the tunnel project.

"A" for the effort, however, Elon.
