Unai Emery worries about the development of Konstantinos Mavropanos and does not consider the 21-year-old as a "credible option" for Arsenal this season, according to reports.

The Greek central back was the first rookie under Sven Mislintat as head of the club's recruitment. He had signed a £ 1.9 million contract with PAS Giannina in January 2018.

But Mavropanos only made seven appearances in 17 months at the club.

Emery will likely look for a new option for central defense this summer after Laurent Koscielny's decision to miss Arsenal's pre-season tour of the United States.

The 33-year-old is in a hurry to leave, but the Gunners are demanding about 10 million pounds for their captain, interested in several Ligue 1 teams.

Mavropanos has traveled with the Arsenal team for his pre-season campaign, but according to David Ornstein of the BBC, Emery has great doubts about the defender's ability to compete for first place.

Speaking on Arseblog's Arsecasts podcast, Ornstein said that Mavropanos was not considered a "credible option" and that the "development of the player and his willingness to compete for a position are worrisome".

It was also claimed that Arsenal was still trying to unload Shkodran Mustafi but had not been able to find a buyer.

The 27-year-old would not want to leave desire and should stay at Arsenal. He could be Sokratis Papastathopoulos' first choice partner until Rob Holding fully recovered from the cruciate ligament injury he suffered last December.
