The 34-year-old had just put his team 2-1 against Tottenham Hotspur when he was replaced by Sarri in the 63rd minute of the match, as Juve lost 3-2.
Ronaldo seemed visibly upset as he retired and met briefly with his new coach, who has since downplayed the situation.
"We agreed to let him play for an hour," said Sarri, quoted by the newspaper. Daily Star.
"Ronaldo asked me how much time he had left before leaving, and I told him five to six minutes.
"When he was replaced, I only asked him how he was doing."

Sarri then explained how he would try to get the best of Ronaldo to make a difference for the Italian giants in the 2019/20 campaign.
"Cristiano won everything individually and collectively by moving slightly to the left and then cutting in," he added.
"My first attempt will be to put him in this position, but with his qualities, playing 10 meters away would not make any difference."
