President Akufo-Addo reiterated his commitment to provide a bridge over the Oti River in Dambai, and said it would be his greatest legacy in the region.
He said the bridge building processes were progressing with a Dutch company asserting its interest, and assured that he would ensure that the project was completed before the end of his presidency.
The president gave the assurance when he met the chiefs of the Oti enclave in Dambai during a two-day tour of the Volta and Oti regions.
“I am determined, I made the promise and I will make sure it gets done and it will be my legacy for this region,” he said, adding that the Region’s request for a technical university would be also satisfied.
President Akufo-Addo said funding has been secured for the much anticipated Dambai water supply project, which “will soon be a reality to eliminate water problems”.
He also pledged to address the region’s erratic electricity supply and called for unity for accelerated development.
Mr. Kwesi Amoako Attah, Minister of Roads and Highways, said negotiations with the Dutch company had been concluded, while financial deals for the construction of the 1.6 km bridge over the river would be completed by end of the year.
He said a total of 31 different road projects were underway in the Oti region and the government would add more if necessary.
Madam Cecelia Dapaah, Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, said Hungarian company Pureco had moved forward with the intention of overseeing the project, which she said was being referred to parliament for approval.
President Akufo Addo, on the tour, commissioned a yam and cassava processing plant established as part of his flagship One District One Factory initiative, and inspected the construction of an integrated waste processing plant.
He also visited administrative works in progress for the young Region, as well as road works including that of the East Corridor.
