The brightest wide angle zoom: Leica 1.7 / 10-25mm for micro-three-thirds

With the Leica DG Vario-Summilux 1.7 / 10-25mm, Panasonic has introduced the world's first wide-angle high-speed zoom. It has a continuous light intensity of 1: 1.7 and was developed for mirrorless system cameras with FourThirds sensor and Micro-FourThirds connection. The company is expanding the Micro-FourThirds (MFT) line of lenses with a particularly strong member and now offers a total of 32 lenses.

The new Leica 1.7 / 10-25mm fully exploits the potential of the Micro-FourThirds standard by allowing wide angle shots with high light intensity, while remaining exceptionally compact. It offers high imaging performance throughout the zoom range of 20 to 50 mm (35 mm KB) and is suitable for a wide variety of shooting situations. With its high F1.7 light intensity, it allows to shoot effortlessly in low light conditions and to creatively use a high level of freedom thanks to the nine aperture slats offering a dreamlike bokeh from Panasonic.

Panasonic presents the world's brightest wide-angle zoom lens for the Micro FourThirds system. By retracting the central ring (clutch mechanism), the distance scale is released and the manual focus is activated.

The lens system consists of 17 elements divided into 12 groups and comprises three aspherical lenses and four very low dispersion (ED) lenses that effectively suppress axial chromatic aberrations and chromatic magnifications. The use of aspherical lenses and the optimal design of the lens system result in compact size, reduced weight and excellent optical performance.

The new lens is also suitable for video recording: it is equipped with a click-free aperture ring that allows for direct, regular and quiet control of the aperture. The Leica DG Vario-Summilux 1.7 / 10-25mm ASPH. This is also convincing for video recordings because it effectively reduces the effect of focused breathing.

The lens is compatible with the high precision contrast AF system of the current "Lmuix G" cameras with a maximum data transfer speed of 240 B / s. It also has a "Focus-Clutch" mechanism that allows the focus ring to move, allowing you to switch between autofocus and manual focus, once with and without scale visible beach. This allows fast switching between AF and MF modes and ensures intuitive operation.

Due to its robust design, resistant to dust and splash, the lens can also be used in adverse weather conditions up to -10 degrees.

Price and availability

The Leica DG Vario-Summilux 1.7 / 10-25mm (H-X1025) will be available from July 2019. The price in Swiss francs has not yet been communicated
