CHICAGO (AP) – The Chicago Bulls have ruled out injured rookies Wendell Carter Jr. and Chandler Hutchison for the rest of the season, and may soon do the same with Otto Porter Jr.
John Paxson, executive vice president of basketball operations, said the Bulls were "running out of time" on Carter (left thumb operation) and Hutchison (right foot injury). He stopped closing Porter (wrist tight right rotator cuff), although he said: "It's a bit like the trend."
Carter and Hutchison each played 44 games. Choice No. 7, Carter averaged 10.3 points and 7 rebounds, while Hutchison averaged 5.2 points and 4.2 rebounds after being shot 22nd overall.
Porter, acquired from Washington last month, missed his third straight game Saturday against Utah. Top scorer Zach LaVine (right knee tendonitis) missed his second game in a row.
The Bulls entered Saturday's game with the fourth record in the NBA. Close Porter and LaVine could lead to some extra losses and a better chance of winning the lottery.
"We will monitor them," said Paxson.
