YAOUNDE, June
13 (Xinhua / GNA) – The National Assembly of Cameroon began Thursday to consider a bill that
will allow the president to ratify the African continent's free trade zone
(AfCFTA) agreement.
"It will be
be examined by subcommittees and then discussed in plenary and
finally pbaded, "legislator Joseph Owona told Xinhua.
Minister of
Trade Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana should defend the bill before the
Financial Commission of the National Assembly Thursday.
In April,
Cameroonian President Paul Biya told the executive secretary of the UN Economic
Commission for Africa, Vera Songwe, that his country will ratify the agreement
from the opening of the parliamentary session in June.
Until now, 52 out of
The 55 members of the African Union signed the agreement, which provides for
common market to more than 1.2 billion people for the continent.
Twenty two
the members have already ratified the agreement, the minimum necessary for the AfCFTA
take effect. AfCFTA came into effect on May 31st.
