(CNN) – Not the zombie attack we were waiting for.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns of the so-called zombie deer disease.
In January, federal health officials announced that 24 states had reported cases of "chronic wasting disease" in wild deer and elk.
MDC is a rare progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects deer, elk and moose.
Symptoms include weight loss, abutment and attrophy, which earned him the nickname "zombie deer disease".
It's not just about free-roaming animals.
The CDC says the disease has also been found in deer and elk breeding.
Experts warn against the consumption of infected deer meat.
