BOOTHBAY HARBOR, Maine – One of Maine's busiest tourist destinations is hoping to get a little more crowded as it gets closer to the people.
Boothbay Harbor is already a popular tourist destination, but some business owners say it faces a challenge, as the city is more than 20 km from the peninsula compared to the US highway, the Midcoast main road .
Business owners and Chamber of Commerce executives call this 12 km distance a "long driveway". The Chamber of Commerce is trying to make this alley more attractive to tourists. They have just opened a reception center on Route 1, near Wiscbadet.
House Executive Director Patricia Royall said Maine's DOT records show that six to nine million vehicles pbad the visitor center each year.

"There are a lot of people going directly to Bar Harbor or places further north, so it's an opportunity to promote our area, the entire coast, and get people to go down that alley. to admire all the magic that follows, "Royal said.
Business owners and members of the board say they think the reception center will help bring Boothbay's harbor to new people.
"We are being discovered, I think," said Ramsey Lafayette, Lafayette Regional Director of Hotels, owner of four hotels in Boothbay Harbor. "People come two days, say 'I have not seen enough' and want to come for a long stay, which is wonderful, we love it."
The reception center will be open this weekend and soon from 10h to 18h. every day until the end of December.
The Chamber of Commerce said it hoped that the Visitor Center could help promote the entire Midcoast area and provide a welcome break for travelers.
