False phones8 False phones in Ghana

The Ghana Telecommunications Chamber will work with stakeholders in the coming days to put a stop to the sale of fake phones in the country.

According to House Speaker Ken Ashigbey, most of these fake phones are in the country because there is a market readily available for this.

The fake phone brands have flooded the Ghanaian market because most of these brands are cheap compared to the original brands. The sale of these fake phones has become a lucrative business for some merchants in the country, but represents a threat to most of the original brands.

Speaking about the influx at the launch of Jumia Mobile Week, Ken Ashigbey said that most of these fake phone dealers were not paying taxes and that this violated the laws of the country.

"One of the problems with these fake phones coming on the market is the fact that tax evasion, they do not pay their taxes, so when you avoid paying their penalties, you bring in fake devices, it's criminal and in general, the forces of order follow their course, but the only reason these people do what they do is because they are a market for them. "

He also added that his team would work with the original brands, the phone reseller badociation and the National Communications Authority to get rid of these fake phones on the market.
