The High Court in Accra ruled that the charge of badaulting a public official against the NDC's national president, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, was de jure.

Ofosu Ampofo's lawyers had lodged a petition in which they claimed that the charges were wrong, as the prosecution did not provide any details about them.

They wanted the court to eliminate the two counts of badaulting a public official against the national president of the NDC.

In a decision on Friday, the court, presided over by Judge Samuel Asiedu, found that the defenses alleged by the defense were not fatal and that the charges were recognized before the law.

He therefore ordered the opening of the trial on July 8, 2019.

Case A-G

According to the prosecution, following the debacle of the by-elections of Ayawaso West Wuogon on January 31, 2019, Ofosu Ampofo met with NDC party communicators on February 3, 2019.

The facts explain that at the said meeting, Ofosu Ampofo and Boahen drew up a road map of criminal activities, including acts of violence against the President of the European Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa and the President of the National Peace Council, Professor Emmanuel Asante.

He clarified that an audio recording of said meeting had been leaked, which had led the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police to investigate the band's comments.

The prosecution added that on February 20, 2019, Boahen had granted an interview on the radio in which he confirmed his participation in the said meeting and had also revealed that the leak of the audio recording was a true reflection of what which happened at the meeting of February 3, 2019.
