A former deputy speaker of Parliament, Ken Dzirasah, has asked Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo to intervene in the stand-off between the judiciary and the legislature over the privileges of Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga. which is currently being tried by a court. .

The question of whether Mr. Ayariga should be compelled to appear in court while Parliament is sitting is under consideration.

The judge in the case insists that Ayariga must appear in court at every sitting.

The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye, however, decided that the member for Bawku Central could honor the invitations of the courts only if he did not carry out any parliamentary activity.

Speaking about the Eyewitness News affair on Citi FM, Dzirasah said all stakeholders involved in this case will have to work together to find a solution.

"What I am going to suggest is that the Chief Justice intervene in this case and leave the charges against Mahama Ayariga until certain details are settled. Then, if there is reciprocity in the case, the whole judicial process can continue, otherwise the rest will not help anyone.

I will go to the Supreme Court

Mr. Ayariga intends to appeal to the Supreme Court for an interpretation of the constitution of the Privileges of Deputies and know he is obliged to honor an invitation to appear in court on a sitting day parliamentary.

The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, also urged the Accra High Court to respect Mr. Ayariga's privileges.

In a letter to the Clerk of the Court, Professor Oquaye stated that even though no one was above the law, he expects the court to respect the privileges granted by the Constitution to Mahama Ayariga, who is appearing before the court. the tribunal.
