Suspected thieves allegedly broke into the chapel of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (PEN) last Sunday in Dzodze, Ketu North District, and allegedly banged up with church-owned gadgets.
They took away three interconnected 32-inch LG flat screen TVs and a Casio electronic organ.
The suspects, however, left behind another TV and a projector, for lack of access to church money.
The Church uses the four televisions to present acts of service in other parts of the new chapel.
Reverend Ferguson Kwesi Acquah, a resident pastor residing in the same parish court, told the Ghana News Agency that after the ceremony on Sunday, May 26 this year, the chapel doors were locked.
He added that between 5 am and 6 am on Monday morning, members arrived for morning prayer and realized that three of the four television sets and the Casio organ were not at their place, even though they clashed with the chapel's gates intact.
Reverend Acquah said with the management that they had further combed and found one of the sliding windows at the back of the building open and that the flight barrier was broken, which also indicates that 39 there was something wrong and that they reported the incident to the police.
He said it was clear that the suspects used a car jerk to expand and break the iron bars forming burglar protection to gain access to the chapel.
"It is clear that the suspects, after opening the sliding window, forcibly expanded and broke some of the iron bars forming the burglar proof, apparently using a motorist," he said.
Reverend Acquah stated that it was evident that the suspects had first tried to enter the chapel through a sliding upper level window that was not burglar-proof by accessing it through a ladder that they had found later in the yard.
He added that thieves found the latitude of the upper window too high and dangerous to be able to descend into the courtyard of the chapel and abandoned that point for the lower level window that they finally used
Reverend Acquah said that the safety officer in the chapel was sick and absent from work for some time.
A source close to the Dzodze police confirmed the report, claiming that thieves could have used a motorist to destroy the burglar-proof to be able to enter.
He added that the police were investigating the incident but had not made any arrests yet.
Meanwhile, the burglar-proof window destroyed by the suspects has been repaired by the church.
