It is interesting to hear more and more talk north of the border that Rafa Benitez could move to Celtic this summer.
I do not know exactly where it all started but I was in Glasgow this week and the Celtic supporters I was talking to clearly thought / hoped it could have some substance.
There are pieces that appear in the media (see below), but it is surely only wishful thinking on their part?
Time is running out and there are only 52 days left before Newcastle plays his final match of Rafa's current contract. Speculation about the future of the manager will therefore increase more and more every day.
However, I do not see how Rafa Benitez could get down to this level.
The level of most clubs / players is Championship / League One and Celtic scours the league every season.
I absolutely can not understand that European football can tempt Rafa Benitez. Even if Celtic entered the group stage of the Champions League, the number of players that Rafa could sign is so low that it is almost impossible to compete in Europe.
While many people find it difficult to pinpoint the jobs that would be best if Mike Ashley forces him to leave Newcastle, Rafa Benitez recently said that if he were looking for another club, he would not exclude that club. to be on the mainland, even though his family is still based in northwestern England.
Clearly, the only sensible thing to do is that Mike Ashley sells Newcastle United or allows Rafa Benitez to have the support and freedom to run the club properly. Unfortunately, I find it as likely to happen by the minute that Rafa finds himself at Celtic.
ETims Report:
"It's about who could be the man who will get the Celtic position permanently, and one name is mentioned much more than any other.
He is a little in the corner and no longer has a contract in the summer.
As usual, I heard something and I tell you. Technically, I read something and wrote it for you, but it's not such a catchy phrase.
Whatever it is, it means that there is an offer to bring someone else for next season. A surprisingly ripe way of doing things for the Celtic, which also means that they have plans for Lennon, possibly as an ambbadador.
Benitez has a European pedigree and will not play European football soon with Newcastle. It may be the carrot he bites.
Another article published in March on the independent website Hail Hail Celtic:
"As everyone knows, Neil Lennon is the acting head of Celtic until the end of the season. What everyone does not know yet is who will be the boss of Hoops next season.
Obviously, if Lennon wins a double in league and cup, the position will be permanently badigned.
But even if he wins the double, there is a man that the Celtic boss should approach to take over in the summer. This man is the boss of Newcastle, Rafa Benitez.
It's no secret that Benitez is not happy in Newcastle. He has always been in conflict with the owner Mike Ashley. This is especially the case when it comes to transfers.
This means that the Hoops would not have to pay any compensation to the Premier League team as they approach Benitez.
It would be a huge blow to hire a leader of his clbad in Scotland, far more important than the appointment of Brendan Rodgers.
Benitez won the Champions League and trophies in England and Spain. He would instantly become the best manager in Scotland.
It would be a dream rendezvous, and Celtic should strive to make this dream a reality. "
