The “Let’s tour Ghana” club, inaugurated under the aegis of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), began its first tour on Saturday in the Shai Hills and Chenku Waterfalls in Accra.

The club, founded on February 10 by national service staff at the GTA’s main headquarters, aims to promote domestic tourism and put Ghana on the world map when it comes to tourism.

A statement released to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday in Accra said the club also seeks to visit all regions of Ghana, promote domestic tourism in line with the vision of Sector Minister Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Awal and the general manager of the GTA. Mr. Akwasi Agyeman.

“As the Minister said that he will make Ghana’s tourism hub a game changer in economic transformation, ‘Let’s Tour Ghana’ is part of the stepping stone towards realizing this vision.”

The Minister had decided to transform the economic fortunes of the country by creating enormous employment opportunities for Ghanaian citizens, promoting domestic tourism and making Ghana an attractive tourist destination.

The statement said the trip brought together young Ghanaian people from different cultural backgrounds to explore and learn about the beautiful nature and history of Shai Hills and Chenku Waterfalls.

He said attendees were guided through a series of adventurous and exploratory activities, some of which included rock climbing and storytelling of historical events that took place in the mountainous rocks and the wildlife sanctuary.

The group visited the Shai Hills National History and Cultural Museum, where the remains, skins and bones of some wildlife and reptiles were on display.

The tour peaked at Chenku Waterfalls, where the group witnessed and enjoyed natural waterfalls flowing through Chenku rocks, he said.

He encouraged the young people to make it a point to join the club on their next tour to travel and discover Ghana.

“As we can all see better days for the tourism industry, it will be best to join the See Ghana, Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana and Feel Ghana campaign so that we can all collectively support Ghana’s growth.”
