The club seeks answers from the government

The Camping and Caravanning Club has urged the government to review its driver’s license documents for caravanners and RVers.

Director General Robert Louden sent a letter to Secretary of State for Transport, MP Rt Hon Philip Hammond, requesting a Directgov resource review with a view to reducing the number of documents, facilitating navigation and removing ambiguities.

Driving license issues are handled by the Club’s technical department and a large part of the questions relate to license requirements, especially for those over 70 and members who have passed their driving test after January 1, 1997 .

Louden said: “We often tend to take our driving test and then forget our license, but with several changes to the fees over the years, it is now more important than ever that those who tow or drive more vehicles. Heavyweight check their license to make sure they are qualified to operate their unit.

“Often, members who contact us have tried to find information from DVLA sources, but either failed or gave up due to the complexities involved.

“We hope that the Secretary of State for Transport will take our comments into account and seek to improve the situation,” he added.

“We look forward to his response and hope we can work together on this. “

An article on driving license conditions for caravanners and camper vans will appear in the January edition of the Club’s Camping & Caravanning magazine, with more than 250,000 copies.
