Game of thrones composer Ramin Djawadi has never read A song of ice and fire. He'll be there one day – he's been busy for the past nine years working on the Emmy-Award movie Game of thrones Goal.
Before The Thrones, Djawadi had made a handful of points for television and cinema, including the launch of the MCU Iron Man soundtrack. His work caught the attention of Game of thrones David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who planned a meeting and showed him the first two episodes.
Djawadi is immediately set to work by giving up one of the most indelible television or film scores of our generation and a theme song that, to be perfectly honest, slaps him.
Djawadi recently spoke to Mashable about the new season, the iconic theme, etc.
How did you approach the project? What is the first thing you wrote, do you remember?
Many people think that the first thing I wrote was the main title, which was actually not … The discussion on the main title did not even take place at the very beginning, but s & rsquo; Was unrolled one to two weeks later. the project that they actually said, "Oh, by the way, we also have a main title! Two and a half minutes … "
I was working on the [first] episode and the first theme that I wrote was actually the Stark theme. [Benioff and Weiss] had a lot of ideas on how they wanted the show to ring, and they wanted to hear my ideas. It's just a little clicked from the beginning. Everything that was said in the room was unanimous, and on the basis of that information, I started to write.
Did they give you hints about the title track – sound, sensation? Did they know the visuals at the time?
The visuals were actually pretty much finished. We were able to watch the film together, then talk about it in a very general way, describing what they wanted. One of the key words they said was that it had to be a trip. The characters, they travel, they meet, it's a very complex story, so it's really this adventure, this mystery and this journey. These are the three words that they said.

The theme song is of course iconic now with these visuals and your music. How did you come with all these parts – can you tell me about the genesis of this piece?
I would have liked to have a formula … Often, when I write, I do not know exactly how it's going. This particular melody came when I was driving, sitting in the car. The writing of the piece itself obviously took longer. It's really supposed to capture the overall mood of the show.
The main instrument that you hear right away at the beginning is the cello – that's the instrument we've sort of determined as the main instrument of the show … The whole thing is in a minor tone – however, in the even intro, there is a section of agreement where it pbades in major then returns immediately in minor. The idea behind all this has always been this feeling of worry … no one is safe – that's what I tried to establish there … Listen to me and you'll see, this note changes everything.
Have you reviewed many versions or revisions?
Not really. I think I made an adjustment, I do not really know what it was, I think we did something lower – but overall, the structure and everything I had, c is a little gone. We understood so well that we wanted everything to go well.
Did you have an idea of the size of this room? I could hum it to anyone watching the show and they could join the party – it's become so important.
I had no idea. All I write, I never think about "oh wow, it's such a melody". I try to do my best, I try to write my best, but also to write something that I as. It is always my rule that I must be happy. But I never said "Oh, people will really like that" or "People will make a cover song".
The fact that people started making covers and it was a melody – it's so rewarding. It makes me very happy to see that the world has been so successful. It's a wonderful thing.
Have you ever wanted to change or change something?
You know, it's funny, because I often listen to our music and I want to tweak things here and there, but in the main title … we've played this show pretty much now and over the years I made slight adjustment adjustments, but it's really so minor that I think most people probably would not understand it. Overall, it's always been the same, I've never changed it.
We know the excitement that this theme inspires in people watching the series and the thrill of a new episode, but what do you feel when you hear it considering your own journey?
[[[[Laughs]. I'm really excited about this, especially now that we're coming to the end of Season 8 … we do not use the melody of the main title as often. We have all these other themes throughout the show; characters and plot, etc., which are used all the time, but the main title melody has not been used as much in the past. We use it more and more towards the end of the season, as the highlight of each season. So, it is not used so often, so when I use it, it's always exciting to remove it.Yeah, sometimes there are different arrangements, like "Winter Is Here". Are there times when you choose to bring it back?
In certain key moments. Because the main title, he captures the whole series, really. This could apply to any character … we even used it in combination with the Daenerys theme, for example. But what's good with the theme is that it's all over the place – as in Season 7, when it starts to snow, this theme seemed like the right choice because it captures the general drama of what is happening at that time. It's nice to be like, "Oh, I can pull the main title now!" It's exciting for me too.
I love this version. It's so scary to recall all these early emotions while pointing out that the way forward is uncertain. Will we hear the main theme of Season 8?
There are really times when you – absolutely. Like every season. If there is a season where we can use it, it's good season 8. It will appear …
Have you written new things that you are pbadionate about season 8?
Ummm … definitely. I must be cryptic. Certainly – as each season we develop these themes, there are definitely new themes and I am very excited about them. I am very happy that people hear them … I do not know! I am horrible to talk in an encrypted way.

I want people to be really surprised by what's happening in season 8; I want to say nothing more than to say that I feel that season 8 is sensational, epic and incredible. I think people will really like to watch. I can say that I think.
