A professor at the Center for Tropical Clinical Pharmacology, says the coronavirus vaccine is not enough to protect people from the virus.
According to Alex Dodoo, although the vaccine will help stop the spread of the virus, it will not eradicate it completely. Hence the need for the general public to put into practice the safety protocols defined by the government and the World Health Organization (WHO).
He said: “We have daily discussions with the Ghanaian people that a vaccine is coming. He can do A or B but it’s not a quick fix that cures everything Covid has to do with it.
“If you take the vaccine and have not yet received your booster dose or your second dose, you can still be contagious and transmit the virus,” he said.
His comment follows the growing number of Covid-19 cases in Ghana.
Currently, the country has recorded 791 new cases, 70,046 confirmed cases, 449 deaths and a total of 63,502 recoveries.
Talk on JoyNewsMr. Dodoo encouraged Ghanaians to participate in the vaccination process to help fight the spread of the virus.
“Our belief is that if enough of us take it (vaccine), we are less likely to get it (coronavirus). The virus will disappear and then we will have immunity and protection of the herd. “
The Director General of the Ghana Standards Authority further urged health workers and the government to educate the people of Ghana about the vaccine.
“Now we, the healthcare workers, the technical agencies and the government, must bring stability and confidence. However, there are so many unknowns that we need to educate the public. “
