This week, DC Universe adds approximately 10,000 digital comics to the library for customers who have subscribed to the subscription service. This is part of the recently announced efforts to have almost all DC Comics they have already been published in the digital library. However, if you're a fan of DC Comics footprints like Vertigo, Milestone, and Black labelyou may be disappointed to learn that they will not appear in the DC Universe comics library.
In a new FAQ posted on DC Universe's discussion forums (via Bleeding Cool), the subscription service has clarified some details about the comics that will and will not be included in the huge expansion of the comic book library digital. The library will have more than 22,000 comic books, but it will exclude collected editions such as paperbacks, illustrated novels and other published collected editions. With regard to the comics of the aforementioned footprints of DC Comics, here is what they had to say:
"We're big fans of the different DC footprints, but we will not be showing Vertigo titles, or most other DC footprints. You can see some representation on the edges where exceptions are made, but these will be rare and spaced out. "
Vertigo has titles like The man of sand, Preacher, 100 balls, Y: the last man and The fables; DC Black Label includes new titles like Superman: first year and Batman: damned; and Milestone includes the likes of Material, Blood Syndicate, Static, Kobalt and more. This probably means that almost all of these titles will not be available in DC Universe, but they note that some exceptions can be made. You will need to stay tuned for weekly versions to see what makes the difference.
What about other titles of basic comic book books like the Other worlds series, or matches between Batman and Predator or Superman and Aliens, as well as movie comics? In general, these will be included in this mbadive update, but DC Universe also notes that "there are exceptions if they are under specific fingerprints or other rights holders".
The good news is that with this mbadive expansion of the library, there will be no more collection of rotating comics. Although there may be an opportunity to delete a title at a given time, DC Universe will notify in advance, much like Netflix, Hulu and other streaming sites offer a movie or TV show on the point to disappear from their service.
Even with these exclusions, this huge digital library of DC Comics titles could be appealing enough for some people to finally be able to try DC Universe, even if only for a few months. After all, you'll probably want to see what's happening with Swamp Thing now that production has been withdrawn at an early stage.
DC Universe intends to add all these new issues to the library by the end of April. On top of that, they will continue to add new comics each week from titles published 12 months ago, which represents the time it will take for new comics to reach DC Universe.
