Seat cushions likely to come from the plane carrying the missing footballer, Cardiff City footballer Emiliano Sala, were found, the air accident investigation branch said Wednesday.

The cushions were discovered Monday on a French beach near Surtainville in the Cotentin Peninsula by the French authorities.

"From a preliminary examination, we concluded that it is likely that the cushions are coming from the missing aircraft," said the AAIB in a statement.

Investigators said they were now planning to launch an underwater search of the seabed to find the wreckage of a plane. Due to the weather conditions, the search would start at the end of this weekend and last up to three days.

"Based on a detailed badessment of the flight path and the last known radar position, we have now identified a priority search area of about four square nautical miles," they said.

A remotely operated vehicle will be used to visually examine any wreckage found.

Later Wednesday, the former club of Sala, Nantes, paid tribute to him during the match of Ligue 1 against St Etienne, his first match since his disappearance.

The referee Frank Schneider stopped the game in the ninth minute – possibly in reference to Sala's jersey number – for a minute of applause during which Nantes coach Vahid Halilhodzic was photographed in tears.

Fans unveiled banners for Sala, including a giant Argentinean flag, and all the players from Nantes had the name of Sala on the back of their jerseys.

A portrait of Sala was developed on the central circle when the players went on the field to listen to the songs of "Emiliano Sala" supporters.

The Nantes players wore a t-shirt saying "Sure t & # 39; Love Emi"(We love you Emi) and the St Etienne players were wearing T-shirts saying," Pray for Sala. "

"It was a very special night, we played more for him than for us," said Nantes defender Diego Carlos after the 1-1 draw. "We gave everything for him."

Sala, 28, is still missing after the theft of a plane carrying it that had disappeared from the radar between France and Wales on 22 January. The rescuers ended their search for the attacker and pilot David Ibbotson three days later.

Guernsey Harbor Captain David Barker said at the time that the chances of finding survivors were "extremely remote", and in a statement he said the next of kin was informed of the decision. to end the search. Following a crowdfunding campaign, the couple's search was reopened on 27 January.

Cardiff and Arsenal paid tribute to Sala before their match at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.

After the match, 2-1 win by Arsenal, Cardiff defender Sol Bamba said some of the team's players were scared to steal after the record's disappearance, Sala.

"It's very difficult to describe," said Bamba. "It's very unusual, a great tragedy, we've all been affected, guys, the city, the whole club.

"I think we needed something like that, the game, to start, so we came back as usual [that]. But it was a very difficult week.

"We travel … by plane, and some of the guys said," I do not want to go anymore. "It was so deep."
