A 45-year-old farmer who allegedly shot dead his wife was arrested by police in Yeji, in the Pru East district of the Bono East region.
Yaw Muntom then reported and went to the police after the crime and confessed that “the devil drove me to kill my wife.”
The late Abena Jayon, 30, reportedly quarreled with her husband over spending money to attend a funeral and during the misunderstanding, the suspect shot her at close range, killing her instantly.
They have nine children.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Eric Awiadem, the district police commander who confirmed the story to the Ghanaian News Agency (GNA), said the incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Saturday August 20 in Lele, a farming community near Prang in the Pru District West of the region.
The body has since been taken to Yeji St. Mathias Catholic Hospital for safekeeping, as police prepare to bring the suspect to court.
DSP Awiadem explained that the suspect had personally come forward and surrendered to police after the incident, claiming that police drove him to his home and discovered a single barrel weapon lying behind his body in a sea of blood.
He said the couple had had misunderstandings for some time now, adding that on that fateful day the deceased asked the husband to give her money to attend a funeral, but the suspect did not.
“The deceased prepared a meal but she also refused to serve the suspect,” said DSP Awiadem, indicating that the suspect was furious, took the gun and shot him as she was crushing peanuts in the house .
