Mabel Judith Micah, municipal director of Effutu of the Ghana Education Service (GES), assured parents that the necessary measures are in place to ensure the safety of children and staff at school.

She cited the disinfection of private and public schools and a series of meetings with education oversight committees and municipal teachers to encourage them to help students observe protection protocols as some of the measures in place to stop the pandemic.

“We also received our share of personal protective equipment from the government, including hand sanitizers, nasal masks, liquid soap and Veronica buckets to distribute to schools,” she said.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Ms Micah said students have a lot to catch up on in schools due to the long stay at home due to COVID-19.

She said the Effutu Municipal Assembly had established a nine-member task force to monitor and enforce adherence to protocols in schools.

She said some of the measures to ensure adherence to health and safety protocols include banning all forms of school gatherings and student councils.

“As parents, we should not hesitate to join the crusade against the spread of the virus by ensuring that children protect themselves and also prevent others from contracting the virus,” Ms. Micah said.
