Disney is now the official owner of Rupert Murdoch's former entertainment empire, 21st-First Century Fox.
The gigantic $ 71 billion deal – concluded Wednesday – brings characters such as X-Men, The Simpsons and Fantastic Four characters to the already impressive catalog of Disney films, which includes Star Wars and Cinderella.
Disney also owns Fox film and television studios, National Geographic, and Indian giant Star India.
Ultimately, its goal is to compete with rivals Netflix and Amazon.
The President and Chief Executive Officer of Walt Disney stated that the completion of the transaction was "an extraordinary and historic moment" and that he had promised that it "would create significant long-term value for our company and our shareholders ".
"The combination of the rich creative content of Disney and 21st Century Fox and its proven talent creates the ultimate global entertainment company, well positioned to lead an incredibly dynamic and transformational era," he added.
Here are seven tables that help explain the extent of the combination.
1. What both companies possess
Disney has brought together film and television studios, the regional sports network and Fox's international interests, among other investments.
He also acquired FX and National Geographic cable channels, as well as Fox's US regional sports network.
Fox is creating a smaller, information-centric society and major live sports events in the United States.
It will retain its flagship Fox News Network, Fox Business Network, Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox Sports, Fox Television Stations Group and the FS1, FS2, Fox Deportes and Big Ten Network cable networks.
2. How both companies earn their money
Disney already has a wide range of information, film and entertainment companies. However, the media landscape is changing as technology companies such as Amazon and Netflix are attracting customers to new ways of viewing.
Disney is investing heavily in online streaming platforms to counter the slowdown in pay-TV activity and threats from these new competitors.
But his purchase of Fox will allow him to enrich his offer.
3. The power of Disney strengthened
Disney is already a dominant force in the United States. The acquisition of Fox will make it even more competitive with online competitors such as Netflix, by offering more shows and movies.
