The double track system of the free SHS program will be abolished in about 350 high schools in September.
In an exclusive interview, Ghana Education Service (GES) board chairman Michael Nsowah said the government had awarded contracts for the completion of abandoned infrastructure projects and the construction of new projects in the country. schools undergoing dual track.
He added that a monitoring team was in place to make sure the projects were completed on time.
On the implementation of the free services free policy in 2017, Mr. Nsowah said that there were youth issues, including the selection process in which some students chose day schools on long distances instead of taking advantage of nearby schools.
As a result, some students were sent to day schools away from their communities. He added that the department had moved quickly to put in place measures to absorb these students in residential schools.
Acting reforms in the education sector, the chairman of the GES Council said that, apart from free SHS, school curricula have been revised so that students can cope with the international competition.
Previously, the curriculum was goal oriented, while in other countries it was critical. Therefore, students from the country could not compete with their counterparts elsewhere, hence the review.
