The EC presidency is not a popularity contest

I am too angry to get angry at politicians and political activists and opposition commentators who suddenly came to the outdated realization that the appointment and appointment of the President of the Electoral Commission (EC) , and his / her badociates, should be expanded to include consideration of the Parliamentary Nominating Committee "well-known allocation-allocation" as well as leaders of civil society organizations (CSOs) in the country, from a a way that has never been the case before in the 26th anniversary of the democratic republican culture in Ghana (See "Amend the Constitution for the Parliament to examine the candidates for the presidency of the EC – Leader of the majority " MyJoyOnline.com / Modernghana.com 26/07/18).

I am too angry to be annoyed because for over 20 years we were sitting while only one man was receiving a blank check to play with the political destiny of this country, and we all behaved like if all was well. After all, who among those who dispute the political impartiality of Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa to be appointed as the next President of the Electoral Commission did not know that Dr. KwadwoAfari-Gyan, the first President of the EC in the Fourth Republic of the country was a brazen leftist supporter, a fanatical Nkrumaist and comrade fellow with agents of the National Democratic Congress? And did not we follow the same kangaroo process three years ago, when our parliamentarians allowed the then president, John Dramani Mahama, to circumvent our sovereign and constitutional rights by hand-picking Mrs. Charlotte Kesson-Smith Osei from her statutory position as President of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), who then took the law herself and her market orders to interpret and operationalize our election laws not of the Supreme Court presided over by the Wood of Ghana, but from the former President of the EC, namely, Professor AttahiruJega, with the calculated and outright cold complicity of the then President, Mahama?

And now, the leader of the parliamentary majority, who also doubles the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and the deputy of the new patriotic party for Kumasi-Suame, namely Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, that indeed, Ms. Osei La The appointment to the presidency of the Ghana Electoral Commission may have been the most egregious misstep, to speak much less of a criminal violation of the Constitution, allegedly perpetrated by a President of the Republican Fourth Republic of Ghana

. ] And how did this most embarrbading blunder come? Well, according to Mr. Mensah-Bonsu, the man who appointed Ms. Osei to the post of Ghana's Electoral Commissioner and his advisers, including the Mahama-constituted State Council, had not exercised due diligence. Otherwise, they would have reached the sobering, rather curious, suspicious and irrefutable conclusion that the candidate was clearly unskilled, for the simple reason that Mrs. Osei's patriotism could at best be described as nebulous and the worst decidedly untrustworthy. Personally, I do not approve the biographical data on which the leader of the parliamentary majority seems to have based his judgment, but I sincerely believe that these data are worthy of consideration.

And it is the fact that, even though Mr. Mensah-Bonsu says it pontifically, Mrs. Osei's biological mother is / was a Nigerian of pure blood and her father half Ghanaian and half Sierra Leonean . Well, the last time I checked, the newly elected Liberian president, Mr. George Oppong-Weah (I hope he made his name clear) was born to a Ghanaian father – or can -being a half-Ghanaian father? – and a Liberian mother. Thus, according to the logic of Ghana's parliamentary majority leader, pure-blood Liberians have a lot to worry about. To be certain, no one seems really skeptical as to the country of birth or nationality of the fallen President of the EC in Ghana, with the exception of the unequivocal implication of Mr. Mensah-Bonsu that the roots Ms. Osei's are not deeply rooted in the country. good enough to have justified his appointment as chief director of the political destiny and sovereignty of Ghanaian citizens in good faith.

Well, the quaint irony here is that it is the authentic Ghanaians like Mr. Mensah-Bonsu who have consented to the radicals. the revision of Ghana's constitutions, though proscribed by the military, which specifically stipulated the imperative need for parents and grandparents of any presidential candidate to be born and raised in Ghana. Dear reader, if I can humbly ask: how much is ex-president Jerry John Rawlings more accurate than that of Mrs. Charlotte Osei, for a single example?

You see, my opposition to the presidency of the EC has always been exclusively in terms of its constitutional legality and its own publicly demonstrated administrative competence or unfortunate lack thereof. It now appears scandalously that I've always looked at the unjustified clues; and that movers in our country have other more curious reasons that may have little or absolutely nothing to do with the officially accepted data on which we had been led to believe that his appointment as president of EC had been founded. God saves us from ourselves! # W & # 39; Allah-hi-hi!
