The Election Commission (EC) rejected suggestions linking violence and the smooth running of Ayawaso West Wuogon's by-election last Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference at its headquarters in Accra yesterday, EC President Jean Mensa said the blame should be squarely at the door of the two main political parties rather than the EC.
She felt that political violence must be condemned in all its forms and that the two political parties; the new Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC must be invited by all national stakeholders to put an end to the practice of political vigilance.
According to the EC, the president said the poll last Thursday was successful and credible, adding that it was unfortunate that the Coalition of National Election Observers (CODEO) decided to produce a report aimed at putting the credibility of the vote. following the violence in the private residence of the NDC candidate.

Violence
Barely two hours after polling began, sporadic gunfire occurred at the Bawaleshie residence of the NDC parliamentary candidate.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing armed and heavily-armed men suspected of belonging to Invisible Forces, a political self-defense group, invading Mr. Brempong's residence and firing on scores of people who they were there.
