President Nana Akufo-Addo badured the Ghanaian police that the era when an officer remains unchallenged for more than four years is over.

He said that a police officer with an unblemished record that needs to be promoted will be duly promoted.

Addressing the social activities of the police at the end of the year at the annual WASSA ceremony in Accra on Friday, he said that promotions in police services will be devoid of political and other considerations.

"We have promoted 1,502 police officers and 18,853 junior police officers since taking office in 2017, with more than 2,230 in the first quarter of 2019, a development described as unprecedented by the IGP," he said. revealed.

He also revealed that the government began construction of a national detective training academy in the Ahafo region in order to strengthen the police investigation services in the country.

According to Academy Nana Akufo-Addo, the Academy will provide police with the skills needed to deal with emerging crimes in the country.

"Indiscipline, lawlessness, kidnappings, killings, badaults by and against police, militancy, among others, threaten the rule of law. My government will continue its efforts to modernize and provide the police with adequate resources to help maintain public order, protect lives and property, "he said.

President Nana Akufo-Addo said the government is committed to cooperating with the police to ensure the safety of its citizens in accordance with the rule of law.

The new Academy in Kenyasi, number one in the Ahafo region, will rival its US counterpart with its FBI training academy, he added.

"The government is committed to providing all the support necessary for us to benefit from the service that Ghanaians deserve," said President Nana Akufo-Addo.

He urged the officers to work hard to maintain the peace that the country enjoys by declaring that "the most important for our country is its peace, the security of its people and its territorial integrity".

The president added that the construction of 320 homes for officers of the National Police Academy is underway, while 4,000 police officers are recruited into the service and that 2,000 are already undergoing training.

According to the president, the government has provided 320 vehicles to the police service, of which 273 will be delivered soon.

In addition, three helicopters are being purchased to facilitate police operations with selected police officers who will be trained to become pilots.
