Data and statistics from various organizations suggest that badual violence against women in the European Union and the United States has reached worrying levels.

Since 1993, the UN has defined violence against women as "any act of gender-based violence that results in or is likely to result in physical, badual or psychological harm or injury to women".

Measuring badual violence is difficult and there is no single source of data to paint a reliable picture of crime.

Statistics generally show how much these crimes are reported to the police, rather than the actual number.

That said, all standards indicate that badual violence against women, particularly rape, is a growing phenomenon in the United States and the European Union.

In the United States, the total number of rape cases was 99,856 in 2017, a national rate of 30.7 per 100,000, according to the statistics portal Statista, based in New York.

Statista's research on the rate of forced rapes in 2017 shows that the state of Alaska tops the list with 116.7 reported cases per 100,000 population, followed by 70.6 in Michigan, 68.8 in Colorado and 68.4 in South.

Statistics from the National bad, Abuse and Incest Network (RAINN), a Washington-based organization fighting badual violence, paint an even darker picture with a case of badual badault in the United States every 98 seconds.

Approximately 80,600 inmates, 18,900 military personnel, 60,000 children and 321,500 members of the general public are victims of badual violence or rape in the United States each year. 90% of the victims are women, according to RAINN.

RAINN's reports also reveal that one in six American women has been raped or attempted to rape in her lifetime.

Of the total number of cases reported to police, the Connecticut Alliance to End Sexual Violence found that only about 2% was false.

EU statistics from Eurostat

According to Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU, 215,000 violent bad crimes were recorded by the police in 2015, of which nearly 80,000 were raped.

Sweden has the highest number of crimes of badual violence in relation to the population, with 178 recorded violent badual offenses per 100,000 inhabitants.

Sweden is followed by Scotland with 163 cases out of 100,000, Northern Ireland with 156, England and Wales with 113 and Belgium with 91.

Most cases of rape occurred in England and Wales with 62 cases per 100,000 population and in Sweden with 57 cases.

France is also distinguished in the list with 35,765 cases of badual violence, of which 14,105 are rapes.
