PARIS (Reuters) – The European Commission would commit an "economic mistake and a political mistake" if it blocked the merger of Alstom and Siemens rail activities, said French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire shortly before meet the EU competition officer.
"Rejecting the merger between Alstom and Siemens would be an economic mistake and a political mistake," Le Maire told reporters Monday, before meeting with EU Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager in Paris.
"We can not make an industrial decision for the 21st century with the competition rules of the 20th century," added The Mayor, reiterating a warning to Vestager regarding the rejection of the merger.
