The general manager of the state intercity transportation company said the failure of most government policies was due to weak stakeholder engagement and communication of these policies.

Nana Akomea, former Minister of Information, said this at a public conference organized by the Ghana Public Relations Institute at the British Council Hall in Accra.

He addressed the theme "Citizen Engagement in Public Service Delivery: The Strategic Role of Public Relations.

Mr. Akomea, who was also director of communications at the NPP, pointed out that, even though governments could have their plans in their manifesto, public relations practitioners from different ministries had to badert themselves by returning home on the need to publicly commit these policies ultimately to the success of these policies.

He cites examples of closed fisheries policy by the Ministry of Fisheries, mbadive disconnection in the Odumase region by the Energy Distribution Service, and commitments that could have been better managed.

The former legislator also said that public institutions did not provide visible feedback channels allowing the public to interact with them and send useful feedback and part of the problem of citizen engagement in the process of delivering public services.

The speaker also called on education authorities to consider public relations modules in their master's programs in business administration, to enable officials to better understand the principles of public relations and public relations. their impact on their activities.

He spoke of the success of ISTC, where the relocation of the terminals at Nkrumah Circle and Asafo was the result of commitment where customers complained that their stations were too far from them and the center of their activities. He noted that since the moves, the Accra-Kumasi journey has increased from 4 to 17 times per day and about 15 trips between Kumasi and Accra and instead of about 3 per day.

Nana Akomea pointed out that the resignation of the British Prime Minister last week was the result of insufficient commitment to members of Parliament to obtain its membership, hence the rejection of the BREXIT agreement to three which resulted in his resignation.

He noted that the cost of non-participation is high and encouraged managers and political authorities to take seriously the opinion of public relations practitioners in order to avoid visible pitfalls.

The program chaired by Ms Elaine Sam, President of IPR, Ghana, was also represented by Major Albert Don-Chebe and Ms Vicky Wireko Andoh, both former Presidents of IPR, Ghana.

The conference was organized by the Ghana Public Relations Institute as part of its enlightened leadership aimed at impacting society and influencing the body of knowledge of the profession.
