The Trade Fair Traders Association is on the warpath with the officials of the Trade Fair Company Limited, following a demolition exercise conducted this weekend.
According to traders, the company defied a court order issued on April 29, preventing it from demolishing structures of entities that had occupied the field for several years.
Madeco Horizon Ghana Ventures Limited, Premfisa Co. Ltd., Ele Company Agbe Limited, Color Planet Ltd., Excel Courier Ghana Ltd., West Africa Construction and Commodities, Association of Industries of Ghana and Sanyo / BusyMoon Enterprise are among the companies whose leases have expired.
At least seven companies are challenging the decision of the trade show.
They demand a settlement plan and adequate compensation before their structures and equipment are worth millions of cedis and demolished.
Peter Awoonor Williams, president of the Tenant Syndicate, said: "They are not against development, but they want to participate in the restructuring of the exhibition grounds."
"If they think we're hindering their development, they have to compensate us and we leave. The CEO refused and until today, she has never bothered to talk to us as stakeholders, "he said.
He finds it unpleasant because some people have been in the field for almost 40 years and must be treated with respect.
According to him, the authorities gave an opinion just two weeks ago. Last Saturday, the CEO of the Trade Fair Company brought bulldozers with the police and soldiers to demolish structures on the ground.
On Thursday morning, the case was heard in court, where an interlocutory injunction was issued to prevent the company from trade fairs from any subsequent demolition of structures.
