The final referee of the Carabao Cup – Chelsea – Man City is announced – and this is bad news for Maurizio Sarri

The referee was announced for the Carabao Cup final of Chelsea against Manchester City later this month.

And this is bad news for Maurizio Sarri, who hopes to beat holders a second time this season and win the first trophy of his career as a manager.

Jonathan Moss will handle the shock at Wembley and, despite the fact that the Blues behaved well when he was the man in the middle of the years, things have not gone well as planned these last two occasions.

He was official when Chelsea recorded his second loss of the season under the colors of Sarri against the Wolves and took in hand their scoreless draw against Southampton at Stamford Bridge earlier this year.

The defeat against the newly promoted Wolves at Stade Molineux is a match dominated by visitors in the first half, with 70% possession of the ball and 17 goal attempts, but having been beaten 2-1.

The other disappointment of the trip to the West Midlands was the performance of referee Moss.

He failed to send Joao Moutinho for two punishable offenses and dismissed what appeared to be a demand for a fine for Stonewall when Alvaro Morata was shot in the area.

That match ended a run of 10 consecutive Premier League wins for the Blues while Moss was the center man.

What will probably worry Chelsea fans more is that the Sunderland manager oversaw the last meeting between the two clubs at the national stadium – a 2-0 win for City in the Community Shield in August.

Speaking of his selection, Moss said, "It is a great honor to be chosen to officiate a Major Cup final and this is an opportunity I look forward to overseeing.

"Having taken charge of the FA Cup Final and the Community Shield earlier, the Carabao Cup final was the one that was missing from the collection. It is therefore for me personally a proud moment in my career.

"The selection of match officials on duty is the culmination of the hard work and dedication that has gone on throughout the season, which would not be possible without the team behind us and all those who are pushing in the same direction. "

Andy Halliday and Marc Perry are badistant referees. Paul Tierney is currently serving for the fourth time at Wembley.

In addition, the final of the Carabao Cup will involve the use of video badistant referees (VAR) and Martin Atkinson will be on duty for this.
