KARACHI: The fatal Congolese viral fever claimed the life of a woman on Tuesday at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC).

JPMC staff reported that Tazeem Faizan, a 35-year-old resident of Orangi City, was taken to the JPMC Emergency Department five days ago with high fever, vomiting of blood and weak platelets. . The woman was diagnosed with Congo fever and died during treatment.

Faizan is the first patient to die of Congo fever in the current year.

First case of Congo fever reported

Dr. Seemi Jamali, executive director of Jinnah Hospital, said that a total of 16 people died in Karachi last year because of Congo fever and that 41 patients were diagnosed carriers of the virus. Congo fever, also known as Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF), is a tick-borne viral disease that is mainly contracted by people who come into contact with livestock.
