The Swedish defender played more than 250 matches during his nine-year stay at the Hawthorns before returning to Swedish football with Djurgardens IF in March 2017.
"I am very happy to be involved, a few hours after arriving in Stockholm yesterday," said the 35-year-old driver.
"The UK has missed me a lot and I still feel more British than Swedish in a way!
"I've spent a few good years at home, but I'm ready to be back and delighted to be back.I still enjoy the game, I feel very fit and I'm ready to go."
However, Olsson will not return with his former club as both teams have already met twice in the league and in the third round of the FA Cup.
Wigan is currently 20th in the league, five points above the relegation zone.
