Alexandre Benalla was fired from Macron's office last July after being filmed hitting a May 1 protester.

He is currently under investigation for "unlawful use of a document certifying a professional position" and for "falsification and use of false", said the prosecutor's office.

Macron chief of staff Patrick Strzoda said Wednesday at a hearing before the Senate that Benalla had used his diplomatic pbadports about 20 times between August 1 and December 31, 2018.

Strzoda added that Benalla had used a fake document with the head of the president's chief of staff to apply for his second service pbadport.

Senators have heard that Benalla used these pbadports on business trips to Africa, including Chad.

Siding to the Journal of the Sunday Diary in recent weeks, Benalla said that he had not drawn any undue profit from the use of pbadports.

"I may have been wrong to use these pbadports," Benalla said during an interview on December 30. "But I only did it for my personal comfort, in order to facilitate my movements in the airports, I did not use them for my business and I do not see what they could have done for me. . "

Benalla also told the newspaper that he had returned his diplomatic pbadports to the Elysee Palace at the end of August, but that it had been returned to him with other personal belongings in early October by "a member of the Presidency".

"Since they 've been rendered, I' ve seen no reason not to use them. Benalla said.

In a separate interview with Mediapart digital media, published Dec. 31, Benalla said he continued to have regular contact with the president on current affairs, such as the protest movement "yellow vests" .

"They can not deny it," Benalla told Mediapart. "It will be very difficult to do because all these exchanges are done on my mobile phone."

The judicial inquiry into the May 1st incident is still ongoing, the Paris prosecutor's office announced on Thursday.
