The Francis Street Club began as a British legion in the 1920s

A social and sports club founded nearly 100 years ago was put into liquidation with the loss of six jobs.

Francis Street Club and Institute Limited in Wick started as a club of the Royal British Legion.

Renamed later, the Francis Street Club, it hosted a dart show between legendary players Jocky Wilson and Eric Bristow in the 1980s.

The liquidation resulted from a decline in the number of members, rising costs and "unsustainable cash flow problems".

FRP Advisory partner Iain Fraser, acting liquidator, said, "The Francis Street Club has been a reference point for entertainment, sports and recreation in Caithness for almost 100 years.

"Unfortunately, the club is suffering from serious financial problems and the liquidation was the only option available to the committee."

"We are working closely with the relevant agencies, including the redundancy payments office, to ensure that staff receive as much support as possible.

"We now offer the company's badets for sale, including building, fixtures and fittings."
