The Ghana Free Trade Zone Authority (GFZA) acquires land banks across the country to develop industrial parks.
According to Mr. Kwame Nsiah Asante, head of the GFZA's estate and enclave, the goal was to obtain lands free of litigation in order to attract investors for the establishment of 39, factories in these areas.

Asante told him at a capacity-building workshop organized by GFZA for members of the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) in Accra last Monday.
Held on the theme: "The parliamentary reporter is an effective link between Parliament and the public", the workshop was intended to expose journalists to the mandate and activities of GFZA to improve their reporting on businesses in the enclave free.

Describing in detail the acquisitions made so far, Mr. Asante told the Daily Graphic, at the end of the workshop, include Bomfa in the Ashanti region, 1,000 acres; Obomeng in the eastern region, 200 acres; Sekondi in the western region, 2600 acres; Yabiw near Shama in the western region, 3,200 acres and Boankra in the Ashanti region, 1,099 acres.
"We are currently discussing with some leaders of the three northern regions to acquire land for industrial parks to facilitate investment in these areas," he added.
He mentioned land tenure in the country as a major problem against investments.

Asante told reporters that GFZA was willing to pay for the land and compensate the land chiefs and occupiers on the basis of badessments by the Land Assessment Board.

He said Ghana has many resources, but land disputes have discouraged investors from engaging in land acquisitions.
Mr. Asante said that the authority would work with the Land Commission for the acquisition and processing of land documents and called on chiefs to easily sell their lands to GFZA for the development of industrial parks.

In a presentation, Ms. Christine Lartey, head of GFZA's legal affairs department, said that the free zone enclave was operating outside customs jurisdiction.
Therefore, she added, the companies were exempt from all taxes, duties and fees, adding that they had to export at least 70% of their products to international markets.
Ms. Lartey stated that GFZA's functions were regulatory, facilitative and promotional.
