The French league will investigate a solution that would have failed

Paris – The French Football League (LFP) confirmed Tuesday the opening of an investigation into a match between Caen in Angers following a complaint from a third club, the Guingamp .

Caen and Guingamp started the weekend tied at the bottom of the table, two points behind the end of automatic relegation and qualifying for the playoffs.

Before noon, before Caen played in Angers at half-table, Guingamp President Bertrand Desplat telephoned LFP President Didier Quillot to tell him that the club's players had heard about the match.

That night, Angers was 1-0. Caen lost ground this weekend, despite the alleged remedy, as Guingamp drew 3-3 in Strasbourg and the previous two teams, Dijon and Monaco, also drew.

Despite this, the LFP is studying the allegation.

"The disciplinary committee was automatically summoned and opened an investigation yesterday," the league said in a statement Tuesday.

He added that "the LFP has applied the procedure whereby those involved are cautioned about the integrity of the game".

According to him, not investigating potential corruption "would expose the LFP to criminal penalties".

"My player told me things that seemed strange," Desplat told the French sports daily L'Equipe. "I did not denounce anyone, I did not accuse anyone, I will answer the commission's questions because I saw that an investigator had been appointed."

Caen responded with a personal statement.

The club said it "lamented these behind-the-scenes games that we would do without, as we focus on the fight to stay in Ligue 1."

"The LFP investigation must determine who was successful when Guingamp made his charges before the Caen-Angers match," adds the text.

Angers called the charges "unacceptable" and said they "questioned the integrity of the club and discredited the whole of French football."
