JOHANNESBURG – The funeral of a two-year-old child who has been mutilated by a leopard in Kruger National Park (KNP) is scheduled to take place on Sunday in Mkhuhlu, Mpumalanga.

Courtney Ntimane, who was the child of a staff member, was attacked Wednesday at the premises of Malelane's technical services.

The boy was transported to Shongwe Hospital, where he was certified dead by doctors.

"The funeral of the 30-month-old toddler will take place in the hometown of Mkhuhlu. SANParks would like to rebadure visitors and other stakeholders visiting the SFN that the area is safe, as long as they respect the rules and regulations in force in the park, particularly with respect to illegal feeding. animals, "said Isaac Phaahla, spokesperson for SANParks.

"SANParks strongly discourage people from doing the same because these wild animals are losing their fear of humans and venturing into these areas."

Phaahla said two leopards were shot in the immediate vicinity of the scene.

"The autopsy of the leopards revealed that they were in very good condition, that they had good teeth and that they did not show any apparent injury until their deaths.

"The adult female was carrying a lot of body fat, but her gut was empty and the young man was also in excellent condition with a fresh impala in the stomach. This means that they were not desperate animals and that it was probably the opportunistic instinct of the adult, "he said.
