Prince William of Great Britain conducted a three-week secret detachment in collaboration with the country's intelligence agencies.
Officially known as the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William worked with British spies at MI5, MI6 and GCHQ.
He has worked with investigators to badyze Islamist terrorist cells and learn about the challenges of protecting British national security, said Kensington Palace.
"We owe them all deep gratitude for the difficult and dangerous work they are doing," Prince William said.
"Spending time in our security and intelligence agencies and understanding more about their vital contribution to our national security has been a truly humbling experience."
GCHQ's head of counterterrorism operations, known only as "David," was impressed by the way the Duke of Cambridge applied to the three-week mission.
"William worked hard to integrate into the team and easily held his own among highly qualified badysts and operators," he said.
"His Royal Highness asked in-depth questions and demonstrated a real understanding of our mission."
Prince William will one day succeed his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, to become king.
British spies work in secret and can not inform their family and friends of their tasks.
The current terrorist threat in the United Kingdom is "severe", announcing a very likely attack on British soil.
