The Chairman of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) Board of Directors, Mr. Afenyo-Markin, described the Ghana Water Company's union as a way used by some of the company's workers to resist progressive changes.

According to him, GWCL workers should change so that the company realizes its potential and improves its income.

He explained that some groups of people in the GWCL workers union, who are hiding behind the union to resist the change, added that several policies had been dropped due to union opposition.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin, also a member of the Effutu constituency, said in an interview with Citi TV's Face to Face program that the Ghana Water Company workers' union was a group that was tackling progress .

"So far, so good, as far as I know, a lot of contracts have been awarded for pipeline pipelines to various communities.Ghana The water has a lot of potential.I think Ghana Water has a lot of potential but we need a change in attitude.We need the support of the union.but what I understood is that every time you want to introduce something new that benefits the the company is opposed by the employees and they are using the union to tackle it.In Ghana Water, for an initiative to die, the red flag must be raised.

"And I will not hide how I feel about the union. The union has been used to distract the progressive and frustrating thinking of the country. "

Mr. Afenyo Markin also accused some members of the GWCL workers' union of committing a water theft, an activity that he said negatively affected the company and the country.

"For example, I ask myself the question of the many illegal connections, people who drink water without paying … what support do we have from the union, because they are workers engaged in this field".

He called on GWCL workers to contribute to the creation of a healthy environment, so that society strives to increase its productivity up to about 10 times if the workers' union is willing to make sacrifices and show cooperation.

"We need an environment in which workers will be more than willing to sacrifice everything and cooperate with their agents. The situation where some will cooperate and others will not, the situation in which the attitude will be such that someone will misinform the union and that the union will start acting on the basis of misinformation. I'm sorry but I will not do it. We have a future. Our water system. The government has invested so much … We can do about ten times what we are doing now, if the union is willing to cooperate. "
