The secretary general of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) said that it was not only the GJA's duty to protect journalists, but that all media players should play a role.

In an interview with Starr Today (Starr FM), Edmond Kofi Yeboah said: "First of all, it's not just about what the GJA can do, but about media players can do. "

The interview was made public by the underground journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale, shot and killed while driving home.

Ahmed was the chief investigator of the highly acclaimed Ghana Football Federation exhibition, which led to a lifetime ban on Kwesi Nyantakyi, the president of that institution.

After the broadcast of the documentary on football, Kennedy Agyapong, member of the Assin Central Parliament, aired photos of Mr. Hussein-Suale and called for punishment.

The strangers on motorbikes fired three times at Madina on Ahmed Hussein-Suale as he was returning home.

The Ghana Association of Journalists held a press conference on Thursday at the Ghana International Press Center and called on the police to urgently address the problem.

They also joined other personalities, including former President John Dramani Mahama and President Nana Akufo-Addo, calling on the various institutions in charge of investigations to speed up investigations to bring those responsible for the death of Ahmed to justice.

Some journalists who attended the press conference said that they did not feel safe in the country, especially as a result of this incident.

The GJA is the umbrella organization representing Ghanaian journalists and to which most of the country's journalists belong. It was founded in 1949.
