The government and the Czech Republic have signed a 47 million euro credit facility for the supply of 50 steel bridges in some communities of the country as part of infrastructure works.
Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah revealed on Wednesday that the project involved the design, supply and installation of steel components for the construction of new bridges.
He added that this will also include the replacement of some existing bridges over rivers and pedestrian bridges, including the completion of all substructure work and access road works.
The Minister of Roads and Highways has signed on behalf of the Government for the installation, while the Ambbadador of the Czech Republic has done the same for his country.

"According to the agreement, the feeder roads department will have 20 bridges, the highway bridge of Ghana 20 and the highway bridge of the urban department," said the Minister of Information.
He added that the project should be completed within 24 months from the start date.
In February of this year, the Ministry of Roads requested the collaboration of the 48th Armed Forces Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces to build 5,000 steel bridges to facilitate economic activities at the national level.
Kwasi Amoako-Attah announced that his ministry would soon enter into an agreement with the Ministry of Defense to allow members of the regiment to support the rehabilitation of approximately 150 components of steel bridges that had been demolished.

The main objectives of the project are to meet basic human needs by improving the accessibility of hospitals, schools and other socio-cultural facilities, which are considerably hampered by the lack of bridges at watercourse crossings.
MP Ofoase Ayirebi said the construction of the bridges would also help to eliminate traffic bottlenecks at river crossings and improve the movement of goods and people in areas of influence.
"It is expected that by the end of the project, access to schools, hospitals and markets will be ensured all year round, thus eliminating interruptions in the transport of people, agricultural products and food. other items during the rainy season, "he said.
The government hopes that the development of the bridges should also increase the incomes of the people living along the project areas and in these areas.
