Former President John Dramani Mahama
Former President John Dramani Mahama accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration of improper borrowing in the past two years.
According to Mr. Mahama, who lost the 2016 presidential election to the benefit of Akufo-Addo, the government is grappling with unprecedented levels of borrowing, but there is nothing to demonstrate.
He added that although his administration was reprimanded for borrowing, it used these funds for development projects.
In an interview with Radio Gold, based in Accra on Friday, Mahama said his government had used loans to build schools, hospitals, airport terminals, roads and many social infrastructure.
He said that Ghanaians were disappointed with Akufo-Addo because his promises had not been kept.
"I have something to offer, Ghanaians saw what I could offer, the change in 2016 had no positive results, the plans we presented were very clear and, they were followed, they would have allowed us to progress faster, the judges, "said Mahama.
Mahama is one of seven candidates aspiring to become the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2020 elections.
The other candidates are the second vice-speaker of Parliament, Mr. Alban Kingsford, Sumana Bagbin; Joshua Alabi, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Accra Professional Studies (UPSA); former General Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Mr. Sylvester Mensah.
The others are the former Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah; the businessman, Alhaji Nurideen Iddrisu, and a manager, Mr. Goosie Tanoh.
The ballot will be held on Saturday, February 23 in all constituencies of the party and will be conducted by the Electoral Commission.
